Divisions offered: Senior/Junior Optimum Hill-toppers Trail Riders

The course consists of approximately 6 miles of varying terrain with spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Ride along the Maury River and through the green pastures abundant with wildlife. Sunrise Stables lends itself to the perfect setting for you and your partners to relax and enjoy. Bring a picnic or eat with us but do plan to stay awhile and enjoy all this farm has to offer.

Each rider will receive a ticket for lunch. Meat on the "barbie" with veggies and bread

Entry fee: $35.00 per horse /rider entry. " Family", Pony Club, 4-H with membership card discount: Teams made up of family $30.00 per family member on same team.

Time: 9:00 am, to 2:00 pm

Ribbons: first thru sixth places for each rider per division

Teams: up to 4 riders

Directions: I-81 N. or I-81 S. to exit 188A. Proceed on Rt. 60 East, towards Buena Vista; turn left onto Bares Wood Lane, approx. ? mile from Exit ramp. Follow signs to parking.

DETAILS:

Optimum time was based on 10,500 meters (6 miles), paced @ 350 mpm for canter work, 220 mpm for trot work, 100 mpm for walk work.

Definition of Divisions is as follows:

Junior Optimum: The year of their 18th birthday and under

Senior Optimum: The year of their 19th birthday and over

The object of this division is to ride across the finish line closest to the optimum time. Ribbons will be awarded to 6 places, taking into account over and under the Optimum time: Ties will be awarded accordingly.

Hill-toppers: not divided into age groups. The object to this division is to have a more leisurely pace without being too lazy. The hill-toppers are expected to ride at a 25% slower pace than the optimum riders. Again, all ribbons will be awarded to 6 places taking into account over and under the Optimum time. Ties will be awarded accordingly.

Trail Riders: A much more leisurely pace. Its purpose is to stop and enjoy the surroundings and have a nice chat with your team -mate. This group is expected to ride at a 50% slower pace then the optimum riders. Ribbons to be awarded to 6 places taking into account over and under closest to optimum time.


  • Should a team be made up of both Juniors & Seniors, it will be considered a junior team.
  • We ask that all Riders use Excellent-riding ethics while here. Nobody wants to be responsible for the cause of an accident!!!!
  • We ask in particular that when greeted with a caution sign that you do proceed with caution. There is a reason for the sign and it was made for your safety, Please Adhere.
  • This day is presented for your enjoyment and entertainment. We would be remiss if we did not state that while we hope you have the very best of times, riding can be dangerous and you should be aware of the potential dangers and ride in a very responsible manner to the risks involved. Wear your hard hat with harness secured and do not over-face your horses to the jumps on course.
  • Should there be trouble on course there are safety checks along the way that you can report the need of help. They have direct contact with the EMT and can be to the source of trouble quickly. A vet is also on call.
