Schooling Eventing Derby competition consists of a Dressage Test followed by a Jumping Course combining both stadium and cross-country fences. There are from 8-16 obstacles on varied terrain, and may include banks, ditches, and water. The Schooling Eventing Derby will be considered as part of the Spring Fest Series.  This unique schooling opportunity provides a safe venue for new competitors, green horses, as well as a schooling opportunity for the experienced competitor. This schooling experience provides a cross-training opportunity for both horse and rider, regardless of their equestrian discipline

1. All divisions of Schooling Eventing Derby: AG-P = $52.00. Save $5 *Special Fees" Enter two consecutive levels, same horse/rider, immediate family discount (e.g. mother/daughter sisters, father/daughter, Pony Club and 4H with membership card. ONE $5 discount per entry.

1a) Schooling Eventing Derby:

  • Advanced Green,  8 - 10  XC and SJ  type fences in open field Max: 2feet
  • Beginner Novice,  12 XC & SJ   type fences, in open field, Max height 2’7”
  • Novice  14 XC and SJ type fences in the  open fields, Max 2’11”
  • Training , 14 XC & SJ type fences in the open field, Max 3’3”
  • Preliminary, 16 XC & SJ type fences in the open field, Max 3’7”

All dressage tests will be ridden in a small arena , large arena when applicable. b.) Draw checks to VHT-WTH.

Refunds (must be in writing, faxed or e-mail): Before closing date all, after CD: NONE
NO shows- no credit, no refund. Post entries available when scratches occur. d) Negative Coggins required within 12 months.

2.  All Dressage Show Entries=$21.00  ALL USEF DRESSAGE TESTS  NEW 2007.  Prix Caprilli & Freestyle Tests= $18.00  Same "Special Fees" apply for dressage as for CT.    Intro/ all levels.  1. NEW USEF  2007 “ Dressage ” Test , your choice of test. Prix Caprilli  Test 1, Test  2 - Tests can be found on the website;  Freestyle Dressage - Green,  Novice, Training Level , Test can be found on Website.  2006 Eventing Tests are the same as last year.  All Dressage Tests can be found on www.vahorsetrials.com. Entries will be split or combined, should entries warrant. All tests to be ridden in a small arena.

3. Tentative Time Schedule, 8:00 am Eventing Derby   Dressage, 10:00 jumping.  Dressage Show entries approx. 1:00 PM

4. Awards: 6 Ribbons.  Concessions: Tootie  will be serving up food on grounds.   Stabling: Limited: please call ahead 540.348.1152, can be arranged.

5. Starting times: available on www.vahorsetrials.com by Thurs. before show or call between 6 & 9 p.m.

6. Directions:  From the west ( I - 81): Take 64E to exit 99 ( Afton).  Turn  right onto 250E, proceed 4 miles to Rte 692 (Plank Rd). Turn right and proceed 2.6 miles to Kingsway Rd.  Turn right onto Kingsway, barn is on the right.
From the East ( Richmond): 64 w to exit 107 ( Crozet). Turn left onto 250 w, proceed 3.9 miles to left on 692 ( Plank Rd).  Proceed as above.
From the North:   Take either I – 95 or 295 to 64 , proceed as above
From the South ( Lynchburg):  29 N into Albemarle County, take a left on 692 ( Plank Rd).  Proceed 7 mi (through Batesville) to left on Kingsway Rd.  Barn is on the right.

7. Dress: casual, must be neat and tidy with boots, breeches ASTM approved hard hats, body protecting vest & Medical Armbands (available at show and on the website ) for jumping.

8. Level requirements: Schooling Jumping Derby: All USEA Event Tests are 2006

  • Advanced Green – 2006 Beginner Novice Test B: jumps 2’ – 2’6" . 740 m ridden at 300 mpm. Time not scored
  • Beginner Novice- 2006 Beginner Novice Test B, jumps Max. 2'6".  750 m ridden @ 300mpm . 2 mins ., 30 secs
  • Novice – 2006 Novice Test A:, jumps Max. 2'11" .840 m @ 320 mpm. 2 mins 38 secs
  • Open Novice – 2006 Novice Test B: jumps Max. 2'11".  840 m @ 320 mpm. 2 mins 38 secs
  • Training – 2006 Training Test A:, jumps Max. 3'3" . 860 m  @ 325 mpm . Time allowed 2 mins 39 secs
    Open Training -2006 Training Test B: jumps Max. 3'3"  860 m @ 325 mpm. Time allowed 2 mins 39 secs
  • Preliminary –2006 Prelim Test A:, jumps max. 3’3". 920 m@ 350 mpm. Time allowed 2 mins 38 secs
    Open Preliminary- 2006 Prelim Test B., jumps max 3'3". 920 m@ 350 mpm. Time allowed 2 mins 38 secs

Schooling Eventing Derby  Rules

1. The Jumping Phase rules and scoring will conform  somewhat  (leaving liberties for educational opportunities) to the USEA/USEF Rules for Show Jumping found below. Dimensions of obstacles, distances and speeds are  also listed below.
  1. Eliminations: Riders may have their coach(es) assist them in the unlikely event that they are eliminated. At the Judges’ discretion,   riders who have been eliminated may complete the course.  Riders, may, at the Judge’s discretion, negotiate the obstacle(s) at which they were eliminated with the assistance of their coach if necessary.
  2. Levels: A horse may not be entered in more than two (2) consecutive levels for jumping (i.e., Beginner Novice and Novice).
  3. Jumping Phase Dress: Riders must wear  protective vests, helmets with harness and USEA medical armbands. USEA regulations for safety equipment will be required.
  4. Errors or deviations from the prescribed course are penalized as follows:

2. The Dressage Phase will be scored on a penalty point basis, with your Jumping scores added; as in Eventing, the competitor with the lowest score will win that division of the competition

3. Whenever horses are tied in the final classification, the horse with the least number of faults (jumping and time) in the Jumping phase shall be placed first. If still tied, the best score of the collective marks of the Dressage shall prevail. If still tied, placings and awards are to be duplicated.
